Chile: Stucchi, Davila and Redaelli fly "El Condor"

On 24-28/12/2003, Silvestro Stucchi, Elena Davila and Riccardo Redaelli made the first ascent of "EL Condor" (VI, A1), in the Rio Azufre Valley, Torri del Brujo, Chile.
At the end of December an Italian trio comprised of Silvestro Stucchi, Elena Davila and Riccardo Redaelli established a new route on the fantastic Torri del Brujo, Chile. Their "El Condor" follows an obvious line up the central arete and is graded VI, A1.

The Torri del Brujo are located in the isolated Rio Azufre Valley, just 1,5 hours south of Santiago. Despite its vicinity and excellent quality granite, the area is surprisingly unknown to climbers. The team needed two days to reach the towers and, after choosing a possible line, got straight to work on 21 December. Although most of the 300m route was climbed free, some short sections were aided at A1. They equipped the belays with bolts and decided to finish the route 100m beneath the summit, as this crosses loose terrain via the crest. On 27 December, after one day of bad weather, the team climbed the route naming it after the enormous condor that glided over their heads at Base Camp..
