On 14 November the Freerider Giulia Monego and Patagonia veteran Marcello Cominetti reached the summit of Cerro Mariano Moreno (3456m), an important and remote peak on the Hielo Continental Sur (Patagonia).

Departing from El Chaltèn, the two needed a total of 8 days for the round trip, moving on skis and hauling all gear on a sledge. Making the best of a short break in the weather, the two ascended using mid-weight ski mountaineering gear, reaching the summit in a single 1410m ascent push. As Cominetti states, "the return turned out to be rather "interesting" due to the typical strong storm which taxed the two right at the end."

This was the first Patagonian experience for the internationally famous Giulia Monego, but this baptism of fire ma well have further consequences seeing that, conditions permitting, the two are now considering a descent in the Cerro Torre region.
