The first via ferrata in Canton Ticino has been built on Monte Salvatore high above Lake Lugano. The ferrata ascends the NW Face for 250m to the left of the cable car and was created by the Mountain Guides of Ticino together with the Cortina d'Ampezzo Mountain Guides in commemoration of Delio Ossola, the Mountain Guide who died on the Matterhorn in August 1998. With 60 steel steps and a height difference of 150 vertical meters, this demanding itinerary is recommended only for experienced hikers with ferrata kit or accompanied by a Mountain Guide. Geting there A steep path leads from the Pazzallo cable car station to the start of the ferrata in about 50 mins. From the top of this either descend to Pazzallo followiing the beautiful path or reach the summit in a further 20 minutes to reach the top of the cable car.
