Avalanche danger in the Alps

Fresh snowfall followed by strong winds and a sudden rise in temperature have led to numerous avalanches discharging throughout the Alps.
Fresh snowfall followed by strong winds and a sudden rise in temperature have led to numerous avalanches discharging throughout the Alps. Rescue work is still underway for two skiers feared missing after an avalanche discharged at 2200m in Italy's Val Sambuzza, while a 15 year old snowboarder died on Sunday 29/12 in Savognin, Switzerland. At Chancelaye, Haute Provence, a 60 year old skier died after being caught in an avalnache off-piste.

Given the current conditions, our advice is to be prudent. Check the weather forecast and avalanche bulletins and, especially if contemplating skiing off-piste, get in touch with the local Mountain Guides.
