LEVISSIMA FOREVEREST to clean up Everest
The expedition LEVISSIMA FOREVEREST to clean up Everest Base Camp in Tibet
| The Italian bottled-water company Acqua Levissima is sponsoring an expedition to the Tibetan side of Everest to clean up the area around Base Camp (5000m) and Advanced Base Camp (6400m). The expedition LEVISSIMA FOREVEREST is composed of a team of experts specialised in mountain ecology, three local Sherpas and a group of Tibetans. Between 15 May and 15 June they will collect rubbish from the North side and create a so-called "ecological island", an area for waste differentiation for both climbers and trekkers. The clean-up operation is supported by the Tibetan Mountaineering Association, which will see to the waste disposal and manage the "ecological island" in the future. The Italian internet site www.levissima.it contains QuickTime VR's of Everest Base Camp, maps, information about Chomolungma's history, an Everest Who is Who and much more. |
