The start of the twentieth Mezzalama Trophy has been postponed by a week. Confirmation came just before 13:00 at the end of meeting at Gressoney to decide whether or not to stick to the original date of 25 April.

"This morning" announced the competition manager Adriano Favre "together with Luca Mercalli we carefully studied the weather forecasts for the coming weekend. Unfortunately, the situation on Monte Rosa is as such that on both Saturday and Sunday we have no choice but to delay the start of the Trophy to 1 May. The race course is technical and challenging, mostly above 4000 meters above sea level, and we cannot take the risk of sending 300 teams up into the unknown with a risk of sudden worsening weather. Our main priority is the safety of the athletes and those who work up in the mountains during the competition."

Favre confirmed that Friday morning’s Junior race will take place as scheduled in the Aquila gully.
