After just three days of effort Stefan Scarperi has repeated one of the purest, most beautiful and coveted boulders of all, Bügeleisen sit in the Maltatal. As reported last week, Scarperi had travelled to the Austrian valley land needed little more than a day to send the original version of this iron-like bloc, freed in 2002 by Klem Loskot. He had also tried the 8C sit start added in 2014 by Nalle Hukkataival, but after failing to make the link soon preferred to try his luck elsewhere.

Knowing that success was within his grasp Scarperi, who placed third in 2015 European Bouldering Championship in Innsbruck and is one of the few to have repeated Wolfgang Güllich’s Frankenjura testpiece Action Directe, returned to the valley and on Saturday he sent the sit start. This fast repeat came about after just three days of effort. Very impressive indeed.
