Nina Caprez and the first female ascent of Silbergeier, Rätikon, Switzerland
Silbergeier, Nina Caprez and Cedric Lachat climbing in the Rätikon
The video of Nina Caprez and Cedric Lachat repeating Silbergeier (8b/8b+, 240m) in the Rätikon, Switzerland.
Ground-up and without compromises: this is Beat Kammerlander's chosen style when it comes to making first ascents in the mountains and in 1993 this resulted in Silbergeier, a true "symbol" and one of the most sought-after multi-pitch routes of its genre. Highest technical difficulties combine with beautiful but severe climbing coupled with long run-outs to reach the top of the IV Kirchlispitze and the first female ascent of this masterpiece was only carried in summer 2011 thanks to Swiss climber Nina Caprez. Here's a fun video documenting her ascent, as well as that of her partner Cedric Lachat.
