Scarian wrestles with the Gladiator 8c+

On 26 January Riccardo Scarian freed "Il Gladiatore" 8c+ at Fonzaso, Italy.
On 26 January Riccardo Scarian freed "Il Gladiatore" 8c+ at Fonzaso, Italy. The route in question is an extension to the existing "Belfagor" 8b+, and climbs a steep fingery wall past 50 moves to a boulder crux finish.

Scarian attempted the route 30 times in 2003, falling off the final move a depressing 16 times before spring arrived, rendering the project impossible. Crisp, cold conditions this January and strong fingers seem to have made the difference.
