Ramón Julián Puigblanque has made the first ascent of "Estado crítico", 9a at Siurana, Spain, according to Desnivel.com.

The young Spaniard needed approximately 15 attempts to send the 40m stamina fest, which runs parallel with the famous "La Rambla", first climbed by Alexander Huber in 1994 and then extended by Puigblanque himself a year ago and graded 9a+.

In the World Cup Difficulty 2003 Puigblanque placed second, just 70 points behind overall winner Alexandre Chabot. With the new season kicking off in less than a months time, 2004 should prove interesting.
