Michele Caminati falling off the gritstone testpiece The Elder Statesman at Curbar, England. Despite his groundfall, the Italian climber walked away with only a broken wrist and heel
Incredibly fortunate, yes, Michele Caminati can consider himself unbelievably lucky after his hair-raising fall on Tuesday at Curbar in England. The video shows clearly how the rope broke as it rubbed against the gritstone arête of the route The Elder Statesman.
Caminati has shared the clip with the climbing community in order to raise awareness about the potential dangers of rope shearing on sharp edges such as arêtes and flakes. The Italian climber would like to thank the local Edale Mountain Rescue squad and the emergency services for their rapid response and professionalism.
