Francesca Medici climbs her first 8c at Covolo, Italy

On 25 April 2019 Francesca Medici, a young climber from Scandiano, Italy, currently studying Medicine at the University of Parma, sent the 8c Na Vida Nomada at the crag Covolo.

Apart from being Medici’s first 8c, this is probably the first female ascent of this short and intense outing: 17 hard moves, with no rest in between, lead to an easier finish. The entire route overhangs between 40-45°.

Medici had attempted Na vida nomada in 2018 for a couple of days, finding it suited her style perfectly, with short hard moves past tiny crimps. She returned a few weeks ago and having solved the long reach off the sloper after the small edges, she went for the send.

This is what Medici had to say about her ascent "Yesterday I went to Covolo after having lifted a weight off my mind, another uni exam, and I got one of the worst pumps of my life on another route I’ve been trying and figured out some moves which had confused me. After a quick go to just try the moves, resting as I went up, on the second attempt of the day I found myself clipping the chain, without even understanding how."

25.04.2019 Una vida nomada 8c Ci sarebbero da scrivere fiumi di parole sul percorso che mi ha portato a questo momento. Talvolta però le cose devono essere vissute per essere capite. Ieri sono arrivata al Covolo con alle spalle una settimana in cui mi sono tolta il peso di un altro esame, ho preso una delle peggiori ghisate della mia vita su un'altra via che sto provando e ho tolto il po’ di confusione che rimaneva nella mia testa. Dopo un giro a resting a riguardarmi i passi, al secondo giro della giornata mi sono ritrovata a moschettare la catena, forse non sapendo bene neanche io come. E la cosa più bella di tutto è stata che poco dopo anche @steveluccarda è riuscito a chiudere la via. #doublesend Non so, sicuramente al Covolo ci sono 8c più duri e sicuramente questo tiro mi è particolarmente congeniale (tacche piccole e vicine) ma io sono comunque orgogliosa di me stessa per essere riuscita a farlo. In molti mi hanno detto che probabilmente la mia è la prima salita femminile della via ma, visto che non mi piace passare per quella che dice cose non vere, prendete questa affermazione con le pinze.
