Enrique Beltrán Blasco climbs his first 9b, The Full Journey at Margalef
It's all happening in Margalef at the moment. After Jorge Díaz-Rullo completed his epic, 240-day first ascent of the 9c Café Colombia at the insanely steep Racó de la Finestra, Enrique Beltrán Blasco now checks in with a repeat of The Full Journey in the same sector.
The route was bolted by England's Tom Bolger, who in April 2022 climbed the first part up to a large jug and a good rest, creating the 9a+ The Journey. Alex Megos extended the line to nudge the difficulties up to 9b, and after Díaz-Rullo made the second ascent in 2023, Stefano Ghisolfi secured the third in 2025.
Blasco's success comes as no great surprise. The 25-year-old has climbed numerous 9a+ routes in the past, including some 9b's at Rodellar which he has downgraded to 9a+, such as Ali Hulk extensión total sit start, Patanics and No pain no gain. In early March he climbed to the first chain of The Journey; last Friday he successfully climbed the remaining 17 meters of fierce pockets to reach the top of the crag. This is Blasco's first — but certainly not last — 9b.
