Andreas Bindhammer sends KinematiX

On Saturday 6 October Andreas Bindhammer finally sent KinematiX in sector Deversè in the Gorges du Loup near Nice, France. After an intensive summer of hard repeats such as Shangri-La 8c+ in the Frankenjura, Honky Mix 8c+ in Onati, Spain and Asai 8c/c+ near Nice, Andreas felt sufficiently prepared for this new challenge...

In the end the German, well-known for his hard repeats on rock and impressive competition results, needed two ten-day-tripsin August and at the end of September to free what is possibly one of the hardest routes this year.

KinematiX, an old Axel Franko project, is a 45° stamina testpiece that links two existing routes, Total Eclatch 8c to Honk 8b/c. After the first bouldery section – a 20-move 8c – the route proceeds via a powerful tufa rest up along the second pumpy section.

Grading a new route has always been difficult, especially if worked intensively beforehand. According to Andreas though, KinematiX is a strong contender for 9a. His warm-up – an 8b followed by a long 8c+ - is indicative of its difficulty, but as usual the final word is left to those who repeat the route. One thing is certain though – this route is hard!
