JB Liautard wins Grand Prize of 34th Memorial María Luisa Photo Contest

The Grand Prize of the 34th edition of the Memorial Maria Luisa Photo contest was awarded to French photographer JB Liautard for his photograph entitled The Dune. Fifteen major awards and nine honorable mentions were assigned this year.

The winners of the 34th edition of the Memorial Maria Luisa Photo contest were announced on 1 March 2024 after the jury carefully evaluated a 19,155 photographs submitted by 1595 registered photographers from 78 countries.

Fifteen major awards and nine honorable mentions for each of the fifteen categories were assigned this year, with The Dune by France's JB Liautard winning both the Adventure and Extreme Sports category and this year's grand prize.

The remaining winners are: in the category Mountain Landscape, Ramiro Torrents (AR); Alpinism, Lukasz Warzecha (SE); Climbing, Philipp Klein (ES); in the Mountain-Nature Man category, Xiaowu Yang (CN); in Animal World, Buddhilini de Soyza (AU); in The world of birds, Csaba Daróczi (HU); in Vegetal World, Alexandre Bès (FR); in Submerged World, Liang Fu (CN); in Biodiversity, Sergey Gorshkov (RU); in Nature landscapes, Thomas Vijayan (CA) Creative Photo, Jose Pesquero Gómez (ES) in the World of the tinniest. Macro Photo, Javier Aznar González de Rueda (ES); and topic of the year: Night photography, Alex Wides (IT).

The Young Photographers categogy was won by nineteen-year-old Andrés Luis Domínguez Blanco (ES) while the Ruano Grand Prize for film and video went to "K2 The invisible footmen" by Iara Lee. In this category, the jury also awarded another nine thematic awards and honourable mentions.

A portfolio commemorative book containing all the awarded photos of the 34th edition has been produced. The award's celebration will take place in the Asturias on the 17th and 18th of May.
