On 19 July 2022 Benjamin Védrines set a new record on Broad Peak, reaching the summit of the 12th highest mountain in the world 7 hours and 28 minutes after having left base camp. Védrines climbed without supplementary oxygen and his astounding ascent is all the more remarkable as this was his first experience above 8000 meters. After taking in the view, the French alpinist then took the quick way down and became the first person to paraglide off the summit.
Not content, a few days later he attempted to climb K2 in a day. Things didn't turn out as he had planned though, and his climb almost ended in disaster.
