Making the most of cold conditions in Northern Italy, Arnaud Clavel and Matteo Giglio have added a couple of important new routes to the Valle d'Aosta.

At the end of January the two Courmayeur mountain guides added a direct start to “Que je t’aime” (A. Clavel, D. Clavel 1996 - 200 m, II/6 6b+) on Mont de la Saxe. Two pitches (rock 6b+ and ice VI) now lead directly to the base of the central drip, which was originally reached by a long diagonal traverse. The new straightened version is, according to its first ascentionists, one of the most complete and rewarding outings in the entire Valle d'Aosta.

On 2 March the duo travelled to the Orrido at Pré-Saint-Didier and made the first ascents of “Le moment propice...” (120 m, II/5 M7+) and “...pour revenir” (80 m, II/4 M5). Both are situated to the left of “Au bout des thermes” (A. Casalegno, E. Marlier 1989 – 160 m, II/5+) and are equipped with bolt belays.
