K2: Marco Confortola still descending from Camp 3
Marco Confortola is reputedly still descending from Camp 3 with a high altitude porter. No definitive news as yet from the high camps on K2.
The news this morning is that the Italian mountaineer Marco
Confortola is not in Camp 2 as had previously been presumed, instead it
now seems as if he is descending from Camp 3.
The news was broken by a high altitude porter of the Italian mountaineer who at Camp 2 met an American climber and another porter who have climbed up to help the rescue operations. The news was published both on the Italian montagna.tv and the Dutch www.noritk2.nl (12.30 K2-time).

Wilco
van Rooijen and Cas Van de Gevel have been transported by helicopter
this morning to Skardu. Furthermore, a reconnaissance flight was
carried out including Roberto Manni, the Italian mountaineer who had
attempted the summit with the other mountaineers last Friday but who
turned back due to feeling unwell. He had returned to C4 that day and
Base Camp the next.
The current situation on
K2 is marked by uncertainties. Hopes are high that Confortola,
described as being "helped" and in discrete condition, will manage to
reach Base Camp today.
