Ice news: dry tooling and competitions

Anna Torretta, Kurt Astner and Massimo Farina dry tooling in Italy
It's almost time for the Ice World Cup and, in the meantime, it's definitely time for ice climbing. Eventhough there's not much wet ice around, there's still plenty of dry tooling to be done...
The Italian Anna Torretta spent some of her Christmas holidays in Valsavaranche, where she repeated Pymà M9+. Located in Steve Haston's cave, this 18m line was bolted and first ascended by Ezio Marlier, who also recently added Capitain Hook (18m M10) and Hollywood Life (25m M8). These two routes have just been repeated by the Italians Kurt Astner and Massimo Farina.

Astner and Torretta are also on form in competitions. Anna placed first in the 3rd International Master at Ktschach Mauten, ahead of the Austrian Pacher and the Italian Bonaldo. In the Men's event Astner placed second behind Mathias Schiestl from Austria.
