After having waited patiently all winter for the right conditions, at the start of March Austria’s Hansjörg Auer and Gerhard Fiegl made the first ascent of Elfenbein, one of the last stunning unclimbed lines in the Ötztal.

The route is located high up in the valley and the three pitches were climbed in circa 5 hours, breaching difficulties up to M7/ WI7-. Only 2 pitons and 1 bird beak were left in situ, all the rest is protected with trad gear and ice screws.
