Gravity Games (M9), 'Bubu' Bole's new route in Val Brutta
On 11/02 Mauro ‘Bubu’ Bole freed Gravity Games (M9) in Val Brutta
The 3rd Ice Climbing Master took place in Lanzada, N. Italy on Sunday 11 February and an enthusiastic crowd gathered to watch Mauro Bubu Bole in action, once again. Last year the Italian climbed a new 60m M8, a mix of dry tooling, traverses, hanging drips, and thin verglass before climbing through a steep roof. This year Bubu chose an unclimbed line just a few meters to the left, and cleaned and equipped the route by abseil. An ice start leads diagonally left, then through a cruxy 4m roof on friable rock. After a twenty minute struggle beneath the roof and an upside down no-hands-rest, Bubu managed to reach the hanging icicle. Which miraculously held. Once established on the upper section Bubu waved to the cheering crowd and climbed to the top of Gravity Games M9. The crowd loved the spectacle, especially his hallmark wave. And it's not often that one can comfortably watch Bubu in action. But in Val Brutta there's plenty of space left for other routes.
