Gondo Gully, new gully in Switzerland's Gondoschlucht

On 18/01/09 Francesco Vaudo, Andrea Gamberini and Elio Bonfanti made the first ascent of Gondo Gully (300m, II-M4-4), a gully on the Parete nascosta in the Gondoschlucht (Simplon Pass, Ossola, Switzerland).

Last Sunday the three Italian climbers Francesco Vaudo, Andrea Gamberini, Elio Bonfanti travelled to Switerland's Gole di Gondo (or Gondoschlucht) with the aim of repeating the classic icefall Diabolik.

But as so often happens they were attracted by an obvious mixed line on the Parete Nascosta... Hitherto unclimbed. The three needed little time to change their mind and this is how Gondo Gully came to life.

The 300m route is reckoned to be II-M4-4 and is comprised of three 80-85° ice pitches and three mixed pitches (including the crux 4th pitch through an overhang).
