Everest summits for Expedition K2-2004
Alex Busca, Claudio Bastrentaz, Karl Unterkircher and Mario Merelli of the Expedition K2-2004 summit Everest without supplementary oxygen on 24/05/2004
| At 9.40am local time Alex Busca, Claudio Bastrentaz, Karl Unterkircher and Mario Merelli reached the summit of Everest, without the use of supplementary oxygen. The four members of the Expedition K2-2004 left Camp 3 (8300m) together with Mario Panzeri, who turned back at the Second Step due to physical difficulties. A further member of the expedition, Giampaolo Gioia, has been forced to descend due to problems with his eyes, caused probably by the intense cold. Panzeri is currently in Camp 3 and will make a second summit bid tomorrow, together with Giulio Maggioni, Soro Dorotei, Silvio Gnaro Mondinelli and Michele Compagnoni. ![]() The expedition prior to leaving ABC. ph K2-2004
