At the start of August the Canadian climbers Jon Walsh and Michelle Kadatz made a quick visit to the rarely visited Pigeon Feather group in the western section of the Bugaboos massif where they made the first ascent of Electric Funeral.

The 300m route climbs a 5.11+ line half-way along the SE Face of the Wide Awake Tower, to the right of the Wide Awake route. A storm on day one resulted in fast retreat, cut ropes and the need to hike across the Bugaboo Glacier to Applebee to purchase new ropes, and the route was then completed over the next three days by Walsh and Kadatz who evidently managed to make the most of the fickle conditions. Some stances were equipped with bolts to "attract more climber to enjoy its quality" and just one bolt – on pitch 7 - was placed to protect the actual climbing.

Walsh, regarded as one of Canada's premier young alpinists, describes Electric Funeral as "A fun route on great rock, highly recommended."
