Last Sunday the Italian alpinists Giovanni Ghezzi and Demis Lorenzi made the first ascent of Clean climb, a new mixed outing up the extreme left-hand side of the North Face of Monte Nero (Presanella). Climbed in 5 hours, as the name suggests the route was climbed with trad gear only, including the belays, and offers exciting, dynamic climbing. The nine pitches are fairly similar in difficulty and can all be protected well except for the 4th, an obvious, beautiful corner and slender snow and ice smear that cannot be protected in the upper 2/3.
