The Gruppo Ragni di Lecco is in mourning for the death of Casimiro Ferrari, the world famous alpinist and club member who passed away during the night in the hospital “A. Manzoni”, where he had been a patient for some time.

Miro’s death marks the end of a mythical chapter in alpinism, not only in his hometown Lecco, but all over the world. Casimiro was at the forefront of a generation of alpinists who wrote some of the most interesting and exciting pages in Italian and international alpinism.

His masterpiece, the successful ascent of the West Face of Cerro Torre in 1974, was at that time considered impossible by traditional means.

Countless young climbers followed Miro’s footsteps and travelled to the most important mountain regions in the world.

Casimiro Ferrari was born in Ballabio (Lecco) in 1940. Held in the highest esteem at an international level, his knowledge of Cerro Torre and the Patagonian Andes was considered second-to-none. His numerous expeditions and first ascents shaped the history of alpinism and his love for these mountains was so great that he even chose to live there.
