![]() Summit success for Cesare Cesa Bianchi, one of the most famous Italian mountain guides, who on 02 October reached the summit of Cho Oyo (8201m), together with Ang Phurba Sherpa. The two departed from Camp 2 at 7200 at midnight, climbing in crisp conditions to reach Camp 3 at 7600m two and a half hours later. After a short rest they continued up over mixed terrain, using the fixed ropes of the commercial expeditions. Bianchi described the final meters from the plateau at 8015m to the summit as follows: "the plateau is immense and not very steep, it seems unending, but step by step and with a lot of patience we finally reached the summit at 9.00 of Cho Oyu, 8201m. The descent to Camp 2 went effortlessly: at 13.00 we were in our tent once again rehydrating and resting. A great ascent! And thanks Phurba for the company!"a. Cho Oyu (8201m) Situated on the border between Nepal and Tibet, is the sixth highest mountain on earth. It was first climbed by the Austrians S. Jocheler and H. Tichy and Sherpa Pasang Dawa Lama on 19 October 1954.
