Luca Tamburini about to speedfly down Canale del Diavolo (Passo Tonale)
"Thursday 12 February, 2015. A stupendous day. Sun, mild temperatures, low winds, variable... all is set for a perfect day of speedriding, apart from the fact that avalanche bulletin isn’t promising . In recent days, strong northerly winds have created buildup on leeward slopes. I set off at 8:00am from Fai della Paganella for Tonale to check out conditions for myself, when I reach the top of the lifts I realize snow conditions are good and the pack is stable, only then do I decide to ski down the “Sgualdrina” gully without my wing. Just what I wanted: more than half the descent in powder... I return to the top and speed ride down it, it’s a beautiful descent, but it’s not what I'm looking for. I make my way to the Paradiso lifts and begin to stare at the Canale del Diavolo, its narrow entrance, 2 huge moguls at the start and wide landing…. perfect!"
