14 kilometers and a vertical height gain of 1688 meters were the testing ground early last Saturday morning for the second stage of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup 2018, won by France’s Xavier Gachet and his night unbeatable teammate Laetitia Roux.

Gachet took an early lead together with Michele Boscacci, Martin Anthamatten, Nadir Maguet and Robert Antonioli, but at the third climb Gachet managed to break free and cross the finishing line after 1:45:38, 13’’36 seconds faster than Antonioli and 19’’59 seconds faster than Boscacci.

No surprise in the women’s race, with Roux crossing he finishing line after 1:45:18’, 1:43’’ faster than her teammate Axelle Mollaret and a staggering 6:16’’ faster than Switzerland’s Victoria Kreuzer.

Sunday’s Sprint had to be cancelled due to disruptions on the railway line caused by the high winds, as volunteers and some athletes failed to arrive on time. The next stage of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup will take place at Acalis in Andorra.
