Swiss glacier plastic wrap vs. global warming

The Gurschen glacier (Andermatt, Switzerland) will be wrapped in plastic to prevent it from melting due to global warming.

Wrap glaciers in plastic to stop them melting? What may at first glance seem a joke, is soon to become reality: next May 3000 square meters of the Swiss Gurschen glacier will be covered in a 1cm pvc plastic sheet. And if the experiment works, the sheets will be extended over the entire Gurschen glacier.

It seems unreal, but unfortunately it is anything but. It's a sign that perhaps we've reached the final stages. And at Switzerlands Andermatt ski resort they cannot believe that these sheets are the solution to global warming, the problem that is seriously affecting our entire planet.

This news should be interpreted as a cry of desperation, and the problem must be tackled at the ground roots, on an international level. talking of which, not all countries have ratified the Kyoto Protocol which controls the gases responsible for the greenhouse effect. First and formeost, the most important world force, and biggest producer of greenhouse gases, the United States.
