Stolby boulder Festival in Siberia
Stolby Climbing Festival
We reported about Stolby at the start of the year, when we touched on what is probably the coldest bouldering meeting in the world, namely the annual winter get together held in the Krasnoyarsk Stolby Nature Reserve, Siberia. In truth these beautiful rounded outcrops immersed in the taiga forest play host to at least two meetings a year, and this summer the warmer event attracted more than 100 participants from the nearby city of Krasnoyarsk and its surrounding areas. The rules are, as always, as simple as ABC: climb as much as possible on the circa 500 boulder problems that range in grade from 5A to 8A.

The next meeting will take place in January and the organisers are keen to underline that everyone is invited, to "Try Siberian bouldering, enjoy awesome Siberian nature and learn about the rock climbing traditions at Stolby!" Which, for the record, have an impressive 150 year history: the first officially registered route dates back to 1851.
