The 2nd International Mountain Film Festival organized in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana and the city of Domžale has now ended. 45 films from all over the world competed for awards in three categories: alpine climbing, mountains, sport and adventure, and mountain nature and culture. After careful consideration, an international jury composed of Alessandro Anderloni (Italy), Matjaž Fistravec (Slovenija), Robert Schauer (Austria), Janez Skok (Slovenia), and Michael Timney (Great Britain) decided to give 2 honourable mentions to Svalbard – Jagged Peaks of Spitzenberg by Boštjan Mašera /Slovenia/ and We corner people by Kesang Tseten Lama /Nepal/.

The other awards were given as follows: the best film about mountain nature and culture to Lopukhovo by Jara Malevez /Belgium/, the best film about mountains, sport and adventure to Set in Stone by Alastair Lee and David Halsted /Great Britain/, the best Alpine climbing film to The High Mountain Guides by Didier Hill-Derive /Belgium, France/, and the main prize of the City of Domžale to Baffin: An Island of Children by Sam Beaugey /France/.

Furthermore, three additional awards were handed out. The Audience Award went to Asiemut by Olivier Higgins and Mélanie Carrier /Canada/, the Award of the Alpine Association of Slovenia for the best Alpine climbing film to Cerro Torre – Latin Rhythm in the West Face by Ramiro Calvo /Argentina/, and the Slovene Television Award was given to We Corner People by Kesang Tseten Lama /Nepal/.

The organizers made sure there were plenty of other things to do besides watching films. Visitors could attend 9 different lectures (Slovene lecturers were joined by Mick Fowler and Krzysztof Wielicki), see the results of the 1st photography competition entitled Mountain Photography 2008, visit two art exhibitions, and attend an overview of military mountaineering and skiing.
