| As is the norm, from 4 - 8 January 2006 Europe's most important ice climbing meeting, the Ice Climbing Ecrins, will take place in Argentière - La Bessée, France. The festival celebrates its 16th edition this year and once again it promises to be a great event, for experts and newcomers alike. Following the wake of last winter's success, the theme this season is safety on ice. A series of technical workshops will be laid on free of charge on the icefalls to learn all about ice climbing safety measures. Apart from these workshops, the formula remains the tried and tested one: more than 300 icefalls to choose from, the "Icexpo" village with free equipment tests, the "Drycontest" and "Dynotrophy" competitions organised by François Lombard, Tony Lamiche and Séb Foissac, and obviously the evening shows, kicking off with the European Tour of the Banff Mountain Filmfestival. Last year 1000 climbers from 27 different countries participated in the meeting and for the Rene Desmaison talk 1200 turned up. If you've never been, this cold winter could be the just the right year! For details, the complete program and registration check out: www.ice-fall.com
