The 1999 World Championship, held in Birmingham, was won by the Italian Bernardino Lagni and the French Liv Sansoz.

Bernardino Lagni is not a name most people immediately recognise, but his competition performances this year (winner of the Italian Cup and 6th at Arco) indicated that he was nearing top form.

Yuji Hirayama came close second, followed by the Ukranian Maksym Petrenko 3rd, Arnaud Petit 4th, Cristian Brenna 5th, the 16 year old Alexandre Chabot 6th, Christian Bindhammer 7th and Dai Koyamada 8th.

Liv Sansoz is on the other hand a name on eveyone’s lips and after this victory now all the more so. Muriel Sarkany placed second ahead of Elena Ovchinnikova third, Marietta Uhden 4th, Annatina Schultz 5th, Martina Cufar 6th and Josune Bereciartu Urruzola 7th.
