Tor des Géants cancelled

Well appreciated was also the speed with which the organisation has been able to recover all the runners that were in the different refreshment points and life basis and all their yellow bags. Runners went down from the high part of the paths accompanied by volunteers and guides because part of the paths was becoming dangerous because of the worsening weather; before 1pm everyone was in Courmayer.

The Awards giving ceremony will take place today starting at 5pm at Piazza Brocherel, in front of the City Hall, with a brief parade in Via Roma to the finish line. Everyone will then gather at the Forum Sport Center in Dolonne for the official Ceremony and final party.

Yesterdy the race organisers arranged as many free sleeping places as possible in the Forum Sport Center at Dolonne. Furthermore, the Cormayeur town council asked all hotels to provide special discount rates to any athletes wishing to spend the night in a hotel.

The race organisers considers their decision to definitively suspend the race difficult, thoughout and correct as due to the adverse weather conditions it was no longer capable of guaranteeing a risk free competition. The organisation would like to thank everyone who helped make a very difficult race safe for the runners.

On the issue of safety: the this year there were fewer first aid requests than in the previous editions. The organisation would like to thank the fundamental work of all volunteers, of the rescue teams, hotel manager, doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and, of course, all the sponsors for their support.

The organisation fully comprehends the immediate disappointment of some athletes, but asserts that the safety of every single runner is, and always will be, its main priority.
