Legrand and Cufer win in Serre Chavalier
François Legrand and Martina Cufer win the International Master Serre Chavalier 2002
| Never say never
again. François Legrand won the prestigious International Master at Serre Chevalier, four years after his last victory, while Martina Cufar won the Women's event. Nothing can ever be taken for granted and Legrand demonstrated the class that rendered him unbeatable years ago: highly motivated he topped out in the ritual Superfinal, followed closely by the recently crowned European Champion Alexander Chabot and one of his closest rivals Tomas Mrazek. Ramon Julien Puigblanque, this year's revelation, placed fourth. Put in other words, the entire European Championship podium shifted down one place. Martina Cufar won the Women's event by topping out in the Superfinal, against Muriel Sarkany who failed to repeat last year's performance. Sandrine Levet did not take part in the Superfinal but placed an excellent third to secure herself, as usual, a place on the podium.
