Austrian Ice Climbing Championship Open

The first Austrian Ice Climbing Championship Open takes place in Pitztal on 16/17 December
The first 'Austrian Ice Climbing Championship Open' will take place at Mandarfen, Pitztal (Austria) on 16/17 December. This Difficulty event is open to competitors from all nations and over 70 athletes have already registered for the event.

The actual competition will take place on the Pitztal glacier since warm temperatures have made it impossible to create an artificial structure. Saturday’s Qualification will be followed by Sunday’s Final, scheduled for 10.00am.

The event marks the official start of this season’s competitions and is viewed as a great "quot;dress rehearsal" before the start of the highly anticipated second Ice Climbing World Cup 2001 in Chamonix on 28 December.

A test not only for the athletes but also for the IWC rules which, with respect to last year, have been modified and will now be put into practice for the first time. Expect no leashes though, as before.
