The footage of Pete Whittaker making the first ascent of 'Dynamics of Change' at Burbage South, UK, in 2008.
At the start of the week we reported about Jim Pope’s impressively fast third ascent of Dynamics of Change (E9 7a) at Burbage, England. Previously repeated only once, by Neil Kershaw in 2014, this beautiful gritstone testpiece which adds a powerful and technical direct start to Johnny Dawes’ Braille Trail was established by Pete Whittaker in 2008.
Whittaker was only 16 at the time and, belayed by his mother, his ascent was documented for the Hotaches film Now That's What I Call a First Ascent. If you’ve never seen it, it’s certainly worth a watch.
