In November Adam Ondra travelled to Switzerland where, despite poor weather, he made the first ascent of an old project at Isenfluh bolted by Stephan Siegrist over a decade ago. Ondra had tried Chicken Nose in spring with Jakob Schubert but the two gave up after breaking a crimp and also because they had no kneepads. On his second visit to this elusive crag Ondra sent the line - not without a fight - and graded it 9a+. Once again, it seems as if the kneepad was decisive in his success; practically unused until a few years ago, kneepads are now a fundamental piece of climbing gear, not only for the elite.
