If you think about hard sport climbs in Germany, the first place that springs to mind is - quite rightly - the Frankenjura. The Kochel massif further south in Bavaria is just as charming though, in particular its southwest facing Rockywand which after Toni Lamprecht’s 8c+/9a Black Flag, now has a further addition thanks local Ralf Grabowski. In October the 38-year-old made the first ascent of Walk the plank: after starting up Nor-a-line (8b/8b+) this weaves into Black Flag and then, after a short rest, finishes past a 7C boulder to create a 40 meter 9a.
