Lucky or unlucky? Depends on how you interpret what happened last July to American climber Brian Koralewski who, bouldering alone at Little Rock Canyon,Utah, USA, broke off a chunk of rock weighing 130 kilos. Fortunately the rock fell on his leg and missed his head.

Koralewski estimates that the impact force to have been around 1500 kilos, and this broke his fibula and caused a partial tear of a tendon. Surprisingly, after accident he managed to get up, walk for 25 minutes and then drive the car to the nearest hospital. 15 weeks after the operation, Koralewski was already back out and climbing!
