Mayan Smith-Gobat and Ben Rueck climbing Place of Happiness, Pedra Riscada, Brazil
Last April Mayan Smith-Gobat and Ben Rueck travelled to Brazil with the aim of repeating Place of Happiness, a striking 850m line up Pedra Riscad first climbed in 2009 by Germany's Stefan Glowacz, Holger Heuber and Klaus Fengler, Brasil's Edemilson Padiha and Argentina's Horacio Gratton with difficulties up to 5.12d / 7c.
After a failed first start due the great heat and the risk of dehydration, Smith-Gobat and Rueck made swift work of the difficulties, but just before the summit they decided to turn back, following their instinct against continuing up the slippery slab in the impeding darkness.
