After a shoulder problem and ensuing operation in November, Matteo Gambaro now celebrates his return to form with the first ascent of an old route at U beccu in Italy's Finale region. The line had been bolted years ago Rocca degli Uccelli by Renato Delfino and Guido Cortese but incredibly it hadn't been climbed before.

On his site the strong Italian climber, and policeman from Borgo San Dalmazzo, recounted "the route is great! a long traverse, beautiful, the further you climb the harder it all becomes, the moves become more intense and physical on slopy holds reminiscent of boulder problems. Add to this the precarious clips and near deck-out falls, especially at the belay (bring a crash-pad!)" Gambaro made the first ascent on 21 March, suggesting 8c.
