It’s impossible not to notice the ascents and, above all, the incredible progression of Lorenzo Puri, the 23-year-old climber from Treviso, Italy who after a 3-year lay off has sent a string of fine problems in recent months.

After climbing his first 8B in December 2017 with two cornerstones, i.e. Klem Loskot’s Wrestling with an alligator in Maltatal, Austria, and Christian Core’s Fortunadrago at Varazze, Italy, last spring Puri raised his game by repeating of Helicopters on Beaches, a Paul Robinson bloc at Albarracin graded 8B+

During this sweltering summer Puri continued on the fast send train, repeating Martin Keller's Highlander, originally graded 8C but perhaps closer to the 8B+ at Sustenpass and, at Champorcher in Valle d’Aosta, claiming the first repeat Murano Low. This is the sitstart to Niccolò Ceria's Murano, first climbed by Gabriele Moroni in 2017.

Unsurprisingly Puri’s no slouch when tied to a rope and in August he sent one of the historical tests in the Belluno region, Movimenti Tellurici at Igne. What is most striking however is the overall intensity of his climbing: in the last month he sent more than a dozen 8A or harder problems, flash or fast repeats. A glance at his climbing diary highlights that he’s one of Italy’s strongest - and silent - upcoming young boulderers.
