| Josune Bereciartu continues to climb some of the hardest routes around. Her latest ascents include "Ocho Anos De Sexo" 8b+/8c at Subijana, Spain and "Spécialistes Direct" 8c in the Verdon, France. Bereciartu redpointed the extremely overhanging "Ocho Anos De Sexo" 8b+/8c in Subijana in her local Basque Country two weeks ago. She needed just two days to redpoint this 20m stamina route, which is broken at half-height by a poor rest. Clearly on form she crossed the border and travelled north to the Verdon to try the classic "Specialistes Direct" 8c. The original line, "Les Specialistes", was first climbed by Jean-Baptiste Tribout in 1987 and eventually weighed in at 8b+. A harder, thirty-move direct version was later freed by Fred Rouhling. Bereciartu had spent one day on this "super nice route" in spring and sent it on her second day last week. "It's been one of my goals as a climber because in many ways the route is mythical for me." The question now is, which other goals has she set herself? |
