In memory of Lorenzo Major

di

Paraclimbing champion and talented athlete Lorenzo Major has passed away. This is a huge loss for the entire Paralympic community. Sandro Neri remembers his Italian teammate.

I’ve been a member of the Italian Paraclimbing team for slightly over a year, and last summer after the International Masters at Imst, Austria, Lorenzo Major sent the following words to our team: "I noticed the right approach that everyone has had in this competition and I believe that coach Marco Ronchi’s suggestion was really precious: to enjoy it for what it is, namely a beautiful game... I can't wait to meet up again with all of you. Thanks for the emotions you guys give me.”

At Imst Lorenzo fought and won with his arms, then he cheered for every one of us. And at the following comps, at the World Cup in Briançon and at the World Championships in Innsbruck, Lorenzo was our flag holder: he knew how to comprehend and admire what those who cannot see, those without a limb, manage to invent. And he rooted for everyone.

He also knew how to laugh and smile from his wheelchair. We miss Lorenzo the man, as well as Lorenzo the athlete. A strong hug to his family, and a gentle caress to his little baby.

IFSC mourns the loss of Paraclimbing Champion
published on the IFSC site on 13/05/20198

It is with a heavy heart that the IFSC announces the loss of Paraclimbing athlete Lorenzo Major (ITA), aged 47.

A passionate sportsman, Lorenzo’s tenacity propelled him to claim countless national and international podium places across a varied field of sports, including Paraclimbing, following a motorcycle accident aged 31 which resulted in permanent Paraplegia. Pioneering the Paraclimbing movement, Lorenzo was crowned IFSC World Paraclimbing Champion 2014 in Gijon, Spain.

More recently becoming an athlete in Paralympic fencing, the loss of Lorenzo Major is one that will be felt by the communities of all sports in which he competed. Our thoughts and condolences are with his loved ones at this difficult time.

13 - IFSC Paraclimbing World Championships - Innsbruck (AUT) 2018
6 - Paraclimbing Cup (L) - Briançon (FRA) 2018
5 - Paraclimbing Cup (L) - Edinburgh (GBR) 2017
7 - Paraclimbing Cup (L) - Briançon (FRA) 2017
1 (Gold Medal) - Paraclimbing Master (L) - Imst (AUT) 2017
1 (Gold Medal) - IFSC Paraclimbing World Championship - Gijon (ESP) 2014
20 - IFSC Paraclimbing World Championship - Paris (FRA) 2012
