Last spring American climber Emily Harrington enjoyed what she describes as "one of the proudest achievements in my climbing career", namely a repeat of Golden Gate on El Capitan in Yosemite. The route, first freed in 2000 by Alexander Huber and his brother Thomas Huber, took Harrington 6 days, a superb achievement especially if you bear in mind that 3 years ago she was failing on 5.9 cracks! Having said that Harrington’s perseverance and eventual success comes as no surprise as she literally feeds off challenges: in 2005 she won silver in the Lead World Championship in Munich, while in 2012 she summited Everest.
