Cristian D'Anzul climbing Vizija 8c/c+ at Misja Pec, Slovenia
Climbers from all over Europe flock to Misja Pec in winter, attracted to the beautiful surroundings and the quality of the routes. Short, intense climbs in the shadowy side caves give way to massive, 30m outings in the centre where just before sunset the sun transforms everything into an intense orange. The splendid Vizija 8c/c+ takes a rising line here, right in the centre of this imposing amphitheatre. The names means "vision" in Slovenian and while many have dreamt about climbing this route, only few have managed to send. Vizja begins with a slightly overhanging slab with tiny holds and highly technical moves and a few months ago a crux hold broke, resulting in two extremely dodgy dynoes. This first section is followed by a further 20m, never simple, up the tufa which leads to the top of the crag and finishing chain, 30m above the belayer. On Saturday 25 February Cristian D'Anzul clipped this chain, and this is his second 8c after nearby Corrida. D'Anzul's ascent is the second repeat after the extremely talented German climber Ruben Firnenburg broke the crux hold during one of his attempts.
