Meschia, one of best bouldering areas in Italy, is closed to the public. This drastic measure was taken recently by the landowner as a direct result of climbers' complete disregard for the forest.

Problems had arisen in the past due to climbers defecating and leaving litter on the private terrain, and the forest's fragile ecosystem has increasingly been put under strain due to erosion.

As local expert Mauro Calibani puts it:
"Climbing is prohibited at Meschia for the moment, in the hope that this drastic solution will serve once again to show just how important it is to respect nature and the elementary rules of good behaviour."
