Bendler's Hells Angels Paradise M13 F.A.

On 17/01/2006 Markus Bendler from Austria made the first asscent of "Hells Angels Paradise - Law and Order" located beneath the Maukspitze, St. Johann, Tyrol.
Last time we heard from Markus Bendler was in November when he had just made the first ascent of one of Austria's hardest sports routes, "Das Erbe der Väter" 8c+ at the Schleierwasserfall, Tyrol. Markus is back in the limelight now with another top-end first ascent, this time round though of one of Austria's hardest mixed routes, "Hells Angels Paradise" M13 located beneath the Maukspitze, St. Johann, Tyrol.

H.A.P. climbs a 15m roof and then continues up a 17m overhanging slog to reach the lip and crux finish. Bendler had set eyes on the line last winter, but the successful "bareback" redpoint ascent came about only this season due to the technical difficulties and imposing avalanche danger. If confirmed, H.A.P. weighs in as difficult as Albert Leichtfried's "Game Over" at Drylands near Innsbruck, Austria.

Bendler, who is only 21, placed 12th last weekend in the Valle di Daone first stage of the Ice Climbing World Cup. Check out video footage of him competing in the final.
